Charlotte Catholic H.S. Teacher Suspended

Update: 5/17/06- The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office will not press charges against a Charlotte Catholic High School teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. The district attorney said the allegations lacked physical and supporting evidence. (Link to article)

A teacher from Charlotte Catholic High School was suspended Monday after allegations surfaced of his improper sexual conduct with a student.

A letter that was sent home to parents written by the Diocese of Charlotte and the letter stated that Principal Gerald Healy was made aware of the situation after a senior student came forward and said that an incident occurred two years ago at the teacher’s home.

Healy immediately approached the teacher about the allegations and the teacher reportedly denied the allegations. The teacher was suspended immediately following the meeting with Healy.

The accused teacher passed a background check before being hired by the school and has been employed by them since 2001. No other allegations against the teacher have ever been reported to the Charlotte Diocese, according to the letter.

The alleged incident was reported to the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services. No names or ages have been released at this time.
