Curfew for Robbery Suspects

Charlotte police hope a new curfew system will reduce the number of robberies by repeat offenders in the Charlotte, NC area. Under the new program, anyone between the ages of 16 and 21 who is charged with robbery can have a curfew imposed during their bond hearings.

Officers will then be assigned to make random home visits during restricted hours. Police say they will make about four visits per week per home. If the suspect is not inside the home when the officer arrives, that person is subject to a citation. Police say they will monitor the program very closely and are anxious to see its effect on the next crime statistics report. Source:

I have to wonder if this program will actually keep kids off the streets. I'm not so sure a citation is going to scare them enough to stay home. Maybe some jail time would... What do you think?
