Man Arrested for Stabbing Cab Driver

Police arrested Akim Abdul Lockwood, 25, after he stabbed a cab driver in Myers Park around 8 pm last night. Police say Lockwood stabbed the cab driver on Queens Road East after refusing to pay his cab fare.

Officers were dispatched to the 2000 Block of Queens Road East in reference to a taxi cab with the doors open and someone lying on the sidewalk bleeding. Upon arrival, it was determined that the injured person was the taxi cab driver and he was suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Several minutes later, someone from the Myers Park Methodist Church Recreation Center called 911 in reference to suspicious person that came in and asked to use the restroom. The caller also advised that the individual was bleeding from his hand.

An officer located and detained the subject. The subject (Lockwood) was subsequently arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill and Failure to Pay Cab Fare.

The victim is Melaku Gebreyesus of the Prestige Cab Company. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center and remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries. Lockwood is in the Mecklenburg County Jail. More Info: WBTV, WSOC-TV
