Bomb Squad Responds for Suspicious Package Found

This morning Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the Charlotte Fire Department & the CMPD Bomb Squad responded to a Circle-K Store located at 9501 University City Blvd. A clerk at the store found a suspicious package in the garbage dumpster area and called police.

The bomb squad evacuated the store and a nearby apartment complex. As a precautionary measure, Bomb Squad officers detonated the suspicious device that was described as a canister wrapped in black electrical tape with an electronic timer and part of a pipe on the side.

Investigators have determined it was not an explosive device and there was never any threat communicated in association with the device and no one has any information about how the device got there. Police say the device appears to have been some sort of industrial filter. Jonathan Jones was on scene to provide us with the following photos:
