In the past week, police were called to 4 different schools in reference to students possessing weapons on school grounds.The most recent incident was on Friday night at a Garinger High School football game. Police say off-duty officers working at the game heard shots being fired in the parking lot. The officers stopped three subjects running from the area.
Three men were arrested, including two Garinger HS students:
* Vinson Williams, 18: Possession of a firearm on school property (student)
* Antonio Harris, 17: Disorderly Conduct & Resisting Arrest (student)
* Warren Griffin Jr., 20: Carrying a concealed weapon and Possession of Marijuana
On Thursday morning, police were called to Hidden Valley Elementary School when they found a knife on a student. The child was detained by police and is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
On Tuesday, police responded to Hopewell High School after administrators found 16-year old Cody Schiene in possession of an unloaded gun and drugs. Schiene is charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Also on Tuesday, an unloaded .22-caliber handgun was found by a student in a Butler High School classroom. Police say the gun was wrapped in a T-shirt. The student who brought the gun to school wasn't identified, however, Matthews police are investigating.
