CMPD robbery detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the brutal assault of an elderly woman that left her with serious injuries. The incident occurred at 7525 Mary Jo Helms Drive around 12:30 this afternoon.The 78-year old victim had visible injuries when she approached her neighbor who in turn called 911. Officers, detectives and crime scene technicians responded to the scene. Medic also responded to treat and transport Ms. Gomez to CMC where she is listed in critical condition. Because of her condition, Ms.Gomez has been unable to communicate with detectives.
Detectives are investigating the possibility that Ms. Gomez was injured during the course of a robbery. Family members report some items are missing from the home. There was no visible sign of forced entry and no suspect descriptions.
