WBTV: CMPD Officers in the Eastway Division have launched a program to help keep tabs on repeat offenders. The "Adopt an Offender" program was launched six months ago.
Police say each officer in the division is assigned to keep track and research at least one offender in the area. They are responsible for learning where the offender lives and who the offender associates with.
The offenders are put on a watch list, their pictures are posted in the office and officers keep track of who is doing what. Police say there are about one hundred officers in the division and each patrol officer could be assigned to at least three or four offenders at time.
"If you're out offending and an officer drives by and calls you by your first name, it may make you think twice about going out in the field and offending again." said Sgt. M. Sloop
