The Matthews Police Department sent out a 'citizen alert' today to warn people who may receive an anonymous phone call from a voice machine identifying themselves as the SECU (State Employee Credit Union.)The caller is told their debit card has been deactivated and asks the person to enter their account number to reactivate it.
The local SECU branch in Matthews, NC states that THIS IS A SCAM and to not enter your account number nor any other information it may ask for! The SECU will never send out phone messages asking for account numbers. The local SECU branch also advised they had been receiving phone calls all day concerning this false request.
