Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation at 6223 Pine Street in the Freedom Division. The incident was reported at 4:45pm. The deceased has yet to be positively identified.
According to the CMPD, Freedom Division officers responded to a check the welfare call placed by a friend of two adult males who reside at the above residence. The friend stopped by their home and noticed that their door was wide open so she called police to investigate. When officers arrived on scene, they located one of the males inside the residence. He was deceased but not suffering from any apparent signs of trauma. The second male was located highly intoxicated in a back bedroom. The second male subject has been transported to CMPD Headquarters for questioning.
The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death. Detectives have canvassed the surrounding homes in an attempt to determine if anyone heard or saw anything in the area in the hours leading up to the reported incident that will aid in the investigation. As information develops, it will be released by the CMPD Public Affairs Office. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team responded to the scene as well. Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
