Thirty-eight year-old Stephen Davis, formerly a starting running back for the Carolina Panthers, was arrested on Wednesday for operating his Columbia nightclub without paying taxes or having a retail license.
Davis owns the PURE Lounge on Berryhill Road in Columbia. In July, the South Carolina Department of Revenue revoked the PURE Lounge's license, but Davis continued to operate the nightclub anyway.
Davis was charged with operating a retail business without a license and two counts of writing fraudulent checks. s was being held at the Lexington County Detention Center. He was still incarcerated as of Thursday morning.
From 1996 to 2006, Davis played professional football for Carolina, Washington, and St. Louis. He is a three-time Pro Bowler in the NFL and a native of Spartanburg, SC.
If convicted, Davis faces fines of up to $200 and up to 30 days in prison.
