The North Carolina Stat Bureau of Investigation is opening an investigation into an incident in which High Point police officers fatally shot a man who threatened them with a knife.
Police officers responded to a call involving a woman who had been stabbed early Thursday morning. When officers arrived, the suspect, identified as David Danny Ferguson, refused to drop the knife he was wielding. When the Ferguson advanced towards the officers, two of them opened fire on him.
The stabbing victim escaped with non life-threatening injuries, while police officers were unharmed. The names of the two officers that shot Ferguson have not been make public at this time. Authorities say the two are on administrative leave, as is common practice for police officers after discharging a weapon.
