Crime "Hot Spot" in Charlotte

Three apartment complexes in Charlotte are known to be crime "hot spots." All three apartment complexes are off North Tryon Street and back up to the Hidden Valley community. Mostly, these apartment complexes have been a hot spot for robberies. Woodland Hollow Apartments, (where a man was shot Tuesday) the Maple Run Apartments and North Point Apartment have been working with police to improve safety for the past two years- but obviously they have more work to do!

They've done crime prevention," said Capt. Michelle Hummel, who heads the city's North Tryon Division. "Two of them improved lighting and reinforced fencing."

The victim in Tuesday's shooting was walking home from work around 3 am when someone tried to rob him at the Woodland Hollow Apartments on Dove Tree Lane, just off North Tryon Street. The victim was shot in the stomach when he tried to fight his attacker, police said. The victim's roommate took him to CMC-University where he was treated for serious injuries. He was later transferred to the main CMC campus in Charlotte.

No arrests have been made & police are still looking for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers at 704-334-1600. Source: The Charlotte Observer
