Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and more than a dozen FBI agents spent most of the day at two homes located on Downs Avenue, located in the Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte. According to 6News, the raid has something to do with an identity theft ring operating in North Carolina, South Carolina & Georgia. A lot of merchandise... ranging from washing machines, thousand dollar plasma TVs, furniture, hot water heaters, etc. - were removed from the two homes and police had to rent a truck to haul it all away. Most of the goods were removed from three storage sheds in the backyards of the two homes on Downs Avenue- off The Plaza.
“We were happy to get our merchandise back,” said Queen City TV & Appliance manager Dave McPhearson. Queen City TV was targeted along with Lowe’s and HHgregg stores. Sources told 6NEWS that all of the appliances and electronics taken from the homes were stolen as a result of identity theft. The items were purchased from Queen City TV & Appliance by a certified check, which was actually drawn from a closed account, according to McPhearson. The manager said everything appeared to be legitimate.
Neighbors said the same family owns both homes. One woman said that, ironically, the people who live there have participated in the neighborhood watch for years. Evidence against the people responsible for the alleged theft is under seal and police did not release any names of the suspects and no one has been arrested. Sources: WCNC, WSOC-TV & News 14 Carolina
