Stephen Akeem Mobley, (Left) a student at Independence High School was arrested this morning for having a loaded gun on the high school campus, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said. CMS officials said another student went into the principal's office around 8 am and reported that 16-year-old Mobley was armed.
"A child came to me and said that he had just heard that there might be a weapon," explained Nancy Bartles, principal of Independence High. Bartles said she and school resource officers searched the student's backpack and found the gun. "It was loaded," she said.
Mobley was taken into police custody and no one was injured. The teen is now charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm. School officials said Independence HS will have extra security present for the rest of the week. More than 2,600 students attend the school. Source: WSOC-TV
In addition to the loaded gun arrest, two more teens were arrested today for having weapons on school grounds. Juan Carlos Fuentes , 16 (Right) was arrested at 12:30 pm on charges of possession of a weapon on school grounds. It is unknown what that weapon was.
Jose David Avelar, 17, was arrested at 1:45 pm for possession of a weapon on school grounds and carrying a concelead weapon. (cutting instrument)
