Working from an anonymous tip, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police executed warrants Friday evening, December 8, 2006, that resulted in one arrest and the seizure of 69 kilos of cocaine, more than 1,000 ecstasy pills, scales & a safe containing more than $741,000.
This was a major case that detectives believe will lead to identifying more people and seizing more drugs and drug money. Because this is part of an ongoing investigation, many details must be protected. However, CMPD said the street value of the seized cocaine is nearly $7 million.
Carlos Luis Grullon-Pena (photo above) was arrested on a range of charges including trafficking in cocaine and other illegal drugs, maintaining a dwelling with intent to keep/sell controlled substances & possession of drug paraphernalia. Gurllon-Pena is currently in the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $460,000 bond.
The FBI assisted CMPD during the investigation and will be working with them and the US Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
