Police say an attempted murder and suicide left one person dead and another critically injured at an apartment complex in northwest Charlotte late Wednesday. The shooting happened around 7 pm at an apartment complex on Brooktree Drive, which is off Toddville Road not far off Freedom Drive.
Police said 34-year-old Shawn Love, was fighting with his wife, 36-year-old Rhonda Love, when he shot her three times in the back and then turned the gun on himself. Mrs. Love was rushed to the hospital; Mr. Love died.
Investigators say the shooting happened in front of the couple’s two children, ages 15 and 9. Their mother was able to call 911, but one of the children had to take over during the call and try to keep his mother alert while waiting for help to arrive. Rhonda Love remains in critical condition. Police are working with other agencies to make sure the Love children get the help they need. Source: WSOC-TV
