Early this morning, CMPD officers responded to the Intown Suites at 7706 N Tryon St. for a report of multiple shots fired in the parking lot. Officers received a second call stating that 3 suspects attempted to rob a female in the parking lot of the Intown Suites.
Upon officers' arrival, the 3 suspects had already fled the scene in a vehicle. The officers located the female victim as well as her boyfriend. The boyfriend advised that he observed the robbery attempt and intervened to protect his girlfriend. He fired multiple shots at the robbery suspects.
Moments later, officers were dispatched to Presbyterian Hospital in reference to a subject that was dropped off at the Emergency Room entrance. This subject was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The individuals that dropped him at the hospital left without providing hospital personnel any information. The subject, later identified as Anthony Jerome Davis (R) was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation quickly revealed that Davis and the two individuals that transported him to the hospital were the suspects in the attempted armed robbery of the female in the parking lot of the Intown Suites. During an exchange of gunfire at the motel- Davis was shot by the boyfriend of the female victim.
The other two suspects have been arrested and charged accordingly for their involvement in the armed robbery. Solomon Davon Gilliam (L) is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Herbert Lee-Jamar Jennings is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
All three men have extensive criminal backgrounds including previous armed robbery attempts. It is a good thing they are behind bars! The case against the boyfriend is being presented to the District Attorney for review. At this time, no charges have been filed.
