Man Jumps from Vehicle and Runs from Police

UPDATE: Police say the man who ran from them carrying an assault rifle on Monday is 28-year-old Damein Mandell Mackey.


Around 4 pm today, a man driving a van was being followed by CMPD patrol units. Apparently, he got nervous and jumped and ran from the vehicle he was driving. As of right now, it looks like he decided to jump and run before officers even initiated a traffic stop. Police say the man pulled his van over, got out with a large rifle and ran near Sandhurst Drive.

Officers set up a perimeter and police were able to find the man hiding in the bushes. Police recovered an SKS rifle, as well as a handgun. Neither weapon was loaded, but officers did find a magazine for the rifle. A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene to conduct an article search to assist patrol officers conduct their area search of the ground covered by the suspect.

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident. Police are still investigating. The suspects name and charges have not been released.
