Police Arrest Man for Killing CMPD Officers

After Officer Jeff Shelton and Officer Sean Clark were fatally shot last night, police have tried to piece together the tragic chain of events that led to the shooting deaths of two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers.

Throughout the day, detectives have interviewed witnesses and teams of officers have collected evidence while those close to the slain officers provide essential support to the officers' family members and each other.

CMPD Homicide Detectives interviewed and subsequently signed Murder warrants against Demetrius Antonio Montgomery (R).

Montgomery is charged with two counts of First Degree Murder. He has a lengthy arrest history in Mecklenburg County, dating back to January of 1998. His charges are mainly misdemeanor assaults, including an assault on a police officer. - View DOC Record - Montgomery is scheduled for his first court appearance on Tuesday at 1:00pm.
