One Man Community Patrol Fights Crime!

Brian Lutes (R) was sick and tired of the rising crime rate in his South Charlotte neighborhood and decided to take action by creating a one-man community watch bike patrol. He patrols at various hours of the day and night.

Mr. Lutes, a former police officer, lives in the Stonehaven Community, which is located in the South Park area near Rama Rd. The incident that prompted him to start the patrol was when a drunk driver ended up on the curb outside his home.

Lutes said, "He had a bottle of Wild Turkey between his legs and a girl wearing nothing but lingerie in the passenger seat. He detained the driver until the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrived.

In addition, Lutes has detained a 19-year old drunk driver that drove his mother's Honda through 2 solid brick towers on Gate Post Road. He has also discovered several doors left unlocked at the local Elementary School, etc.

"I think we as citizens have to be responsible for our own communities and if we’re not, then we cannot just look to government all the time. We’ve got to take proactive measures in our own community and do it.,” Lutes said.
