Shortly after 10 pm, on August 26, 2009, North Tryon Division officers responded to a 911 call in reference to multiple shots fired. The gunshots came from the apartment complex parking lot behind 2601 Lanecrest Drive . When officers arrived on scene, they found Mr. Norman lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound; he was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives believe that Mr. Norman and the other two suspects intended to rob the other two subjects. The two groups are known to each other; this is not believed to be a random act. Based on information gathered during the preliminary investigation, detectives believe that this incident is a drug related robbery.
This investigation is in its initial stages. A second suspect was shot and transported to the hospital. One of the other subjects was shot as well and transported to the hospital. At this time, detectives are still attempting to locate and identify the third suspect in the robbery attempt and the second subject.
