CMPD: Charlotte Crime Statistics Summary for April 2010

Through the end of April 2010, the preliminary total for Index Offenses was -14.5% lower than this time last year. Property crime decreased by -15.5% while violent crime decreased by -7.0%.
- 20 homicides were reported through April 2010 (compared to 13 YTD April 2009), resulting in an increase of 53.8%.

- All of the other violent Index crime categories experienced decreases: 606 robberies were reported compared to 652, resulting in a decrease of -7.1%
- 56 rapes were reported compared to 86, resulting in a decrease of -34.9%.
- 861 aggravated assaults were reported compared to 908, resulting in a decrease of -5.2%.
- Burglary overall was down -2.8%, (2,826 compared to 2,908) with an increase of 3.9% in residential (2,280 compared to 2,194) and a decrease of -23.5% in commercial cases (546 compared to 714).
- 742 vehicle thefts were reported compared to 1,193, resulting in a decrease of -37.8%.
- Total larceny cases declined by -17.1% (6,790 compared to 8,188) with the larcenies from
auto down by -30.9% (2,967 compared to 4,291).
- 102 arson cases were reported compared to 91, resulting in an increase of 12.1%.
