Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a homicide in the Metro Division. The incident took place 333 Mattoon Street. The call for service came in shortly after 10:56 pm on Wednesday, May, 19, 2010.Metro Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon at the West Down Apartments. When officers arrived on scene, they located a male victim lying on the ground. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on scene. The victim has been identified as Jermaine McJunkin.
Several witnesses have been transported to the Law Enforcement Center to provide information in regards to the shooting. Based on the initial investigation, this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
This investigation is in its initial stages. A/D/W, Homicide, Vice, Gangs and Firearms Unit Detectives are investigating this incident and following up on all leads. Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence.

Jermaine McJunkins death is Charlotte's 28th homicide of 2010.
