CMPD Seeking Public Comment on Justice Assistance Grant

The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County will be receiving $940,519 in funding from the U.S. Department of Justice under its Justice Assistance Grant program. The City of Charlotte's share of the funds is $696,931. The funds are to be used for improvements in law enforcement. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department proposes to use the funds in the following manner:

-- $214,475 for overtime for police officers to address defined crime problems in their assigned neighborhoods
-- $219,496 to purchase two additional Sky Watch towers to be deployed at special events, in shopping mall parking lots, etc.
-- $125,000 to expand youth programs in the Police Activities League and Right Moves for Youth
-- $110,960 for technology improvements for the Crime Analysis Division to help analysts more rapidly identify emerging crime trends
