Case Update: The victim in this case has been identified as Willie Richard Hopper, II. Homicide Unit Detectives have obtained a warrant charging the suspect, Daniel Foster, with the Murder of Willie Hopper.
Daniel Foster fled to Albemarle, NC, and called 911 to turn himself in to the Albemarle Police Department. Homicide Unit Detectives then drove to Albemarle and took Mr. Foster into custody and transported him back to CMPD Headquarters.
Based upon information gathered from witnesses, Mr. Foster was involved in an on-again/off-again relationship with a woman who was also dating Mr. Hopper. Mr. Foster went to the Hashem Drive area and after encountering Mr. Hopper, he shot and killed Mr. Hopper as he sat in a car.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex which left one person dead. The incident took place in a parking lot of Glenwood Point Apartments, at the 3600 block of Hashem Drive in the Metro Division. The incident was reported at 11:28 a.m., on Friday, July 2, 2010.
Metro Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to a subject who had been shot multiple times. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim lying on the ground along a walkway, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on scene at 11:40 a.m. Based upon initial statements from witnesses, the victim was sitting in the driver seat of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, when he was approached by a known black male suspect, who shot the victim multiple times in the chest. After he was shot, the victim exited the vehicle and collapsed on the walkway. This is not a random act of violence, as the victim and the suspect were known to each other prior to the shooting.
The investigation is in its initial stages. Homicide Unit Detectives have a named/known suspect who they are currently looking for. The suspected shooter was seen leaving the area in a burgundy Buick, heading towards Glenwood Avenue.
Crime Scene Search responded to the scene collect physical evidence. Detectives with the Firearms and Gang Units, as well as the Helicopter Unit are on-scene and assisting Homicide with the investigation.
