The week of September 20, 2010, the Crimes Against Persons Team conducted three jury trials in Mecklenburg County Superior Court in two courtrooms:
The first trial was of Jaquan Weathers, 26, for assault and inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer. The jury returned a verdict of guilty. The Honorable James W. Morgan, Superior Court Judge, sentenced Weathers to 25-30 months in prison. (Weathers was charged with murder in '07)
The second trial was of Dontavious Pegues, 26, (shown R) for three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. The jury returned a verdict of guilty on all three charges. The Honorable Richard D. Boner, Superior Court Judge, sentenced Pegues to 288-375 months in prison. (View news article about the case)
The third trial was of Astriane Horton, 28, for assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and felony flee to elude. The felony flee to elude charge was dismissed by the court. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer. Judge Boner sentenced Horton to 18-22 months in prison. Christian Chavez, 18, entered a guilty plea prior to his trial. Chavez pled guilty to first degree burglary, common law robbery, and conspiracy to commit common law robbery. Judge Boner sentenced Chavez to 72-96 months in prison.
Eric Kirkpatrick, 37, entered a guilty plea prior to his trial. Kirkpatrick pled guilty to 2nd degree sex offense and four counts of indecent liberties with a child. Judge Morgan sentenced Kirkpatrick to 92-121 months in prison to be followed, upon his release from prison, by 32-40 months suspended for 36 months of supervised probation.
Ali Miller, 17, entered a guilty plea prior to his trial. Miller pled guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Morgan sentenced Miller to 51-71 months in prison.
Jaylin Griffith, 17, entered a guilty plea prior to his trial. Griffith pled guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Morgan sentenced Griffith to 54-74 months in prison.
Napolean Robinson, 18, entered a guilty plea prior to his trial. Robinson pled guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Morgan sentenced Robinson to 60-81 months in prison.
