Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation at 9305 Wilkinson Boulevard, in the Freedom Division. The incident was reported at 1:58 p.m., on Thursday, October 28, 2010. The victim has been positively identified as Roosevelt Hinton.
Freedom Division officers responded to a call for service which came in as a shooting investigation. The caller, a delivery driver for Bealer Wholesale, called 911 to report that he found the owner of the Get-A-Way Lounge on the floor unconscious suffering from a gunshot wound. The witness stated that as he arrived at the lounge, he saw a black male leave the business and get into a black coupe heading west on Wilkinson Boulevard towards Gaston County.
When the witness entered the lounge to make his daily delivery, he called out to the owner who did not answer him. The witness then searched the lounge to look for the owner and found him inside the business unresponsive and called 911 to report the incident.
The motive at this initial stage of the investigation is unclear. A BOLO (be on the lookout) with a 50 mile radius was put out for the suspect vehicle. The BOLO included police departments in nearby Gaston County and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to collect physical evidence and photograph the scene. Members of the Robbery Unit, ADW Unit and Gang Unit and ABC Unit assisted the investigation since its inception.
