Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into a shooting at 3615 Barringer Drive in the Westover Division which left one man dead. The call for service was reported at 12:20 a.m., on Saturday, August 13, 2011. The victim has been identified as Justin Delton Jeeter.
Westover Division officers responded to Barringer Drive to investigate reports that a person had been shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they located Justin Jeeter inside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medic arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and pronounced Mr. Jeeter deceased at 12:29 am. Based on initial witness statements, a male subject knocked on the door to the home. Shortly after, the suspect produced a firearm and shot Mr. Jeeter in the chest. The suspect is described as a bald black male wearing a white t-shirt, blue jean shorts and Timberland boots. He fled the immediate area on foot out the back of the residence in the direction of Interstate 77.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit are in the midst of canvassing the surrounding neighborhood in an effort to identify other possible witnesses to the incident. Based upon information developed at this stage of the investigation, it is believed that this incident is not a random act of violence and that Mr. Jeeter and the suspect were somehow known to each other.
