CMPD Arrests Suspects who Robbed Kings Cleaners and Launderette

UPDATE:  The first suspect in this case has been identified as Dapatrick Richardson.  Richardson has been charged with Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy, Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Possession of Stolen Firearm, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest. * Richardson was previously convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in Cabarrus County on 03/16/2005.

The second suspect has been identified as Dequrius Greene. He has been charged with Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy, Felony Flee to Elude, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Reckless Driving.

Detectives from the Firearms Division are evaluating this case for possible prosecution at the federal level.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating an armed robbery that occurred this afternoon around 3:30 pm. North Tryon Division officers responded to 632 West Sugar Creek Road concerning an armed robbery of Kings Cleaner and Launderette. It was reported that two robbery suspects got into vehicle and fled the location in the direction of the Hidden Valley neighborhood.

A short time later, a North Tryon Division officer located the suspects’ vehicle on Spring Garden Lane. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The suspect operating the vehicle refused to stop and subsequently lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked unoccupied car at a home located at 1500 Pondella Drive.

The suspect who was operating the vehicle was immediately taken into custody. The passenger suspect jumped and ran into a wooded area at Spring Garden Lane and Pondella Drive. Officers pursued the suspect on foot through the heavily wooded area and indicated the suspect fired several shots. The passenger suspect was apprehended a short time later in the wooded area.  The gun he was carrying was recovered at the scene of his arrest.

Robbery Unit Detectives are on the scene investigating the incident. Homicide Detectives are also present investigating whether the fleeing suspect attempted to fire shots at officers.

No officers, civilians, or either one of the suspects were injured during the course of this event. The suspects names are being withheld at this time as detectives continue to investigate. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600
