Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into a shooting near the 1100 block of Commercial Avenue in the North Tryon Division, which left one person deceased. The call for service was reported at 2:27 p.m., on December 11, 2011. The victim has been identified as Chaple Bernard Waymyers.
North Tryon Division officers responded to Commercial Avenue to investigate the report of a person shot. When officers arrived on scene, they located a black male subject suffering from an apparent gunshot wound; he was pronounced deceased on scene. Based upon initial information, this is not a random act of violence; the victim and suspect were known to each other.
The victim was in a motorcycle club meeting when the suspect entered the building firing his weapon at the victim, striking him. All witnesses are cooperating with the investigation and are providing statements.
Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process and collect physical evidence. The Gang Unit and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team responded to the scene as well to aid in the investigation.
