WANTED: Tomonta Quantez Simmons

UPDATE:  (3/2/12) Simmons was captured by CMPD.

Tomonta Simmons is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device and multiple counts of felony probation violation. Simmons plead guilty and was released from jail on December 18, 2010. Simmons was placed on probation with the NC Department of Community Corrections and was being monitored by CMPD as part of a pilot project for priority offenders.

On November 9, 2011, Simmons cut off his monitor and was on the run until being arrested by VCAT on January 4, 2012. Simmons was released back into the community after he posted a $36,500 bond for the pending probation violation. Simmons appeared in Superior Court today, February 29, 2012 to answer to his felony probation violations. During a court lunch break, Simmons cut off his electronic monitor near Sugar Creek and I-85. Tomonta Simmons has previously been arrested for felony drug, larceny from auto, assault, and weapon charges in Mecklenburg County.

Anyone with information on Simmons whereabouts should immediately contact the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) at (704)336-VCAT or call 911. A Crime Stoppers Award for information is leading to Simmons arrest.

CMPD and the NC Department of Community Corrections are involved in a pilot program to monitor priority offenders on probation. Simmons is the second offender to cut off a CMPD electronic monitor as part of this pilot program which is in its second year. Simmons is the fourth offender to cut an electronic monitor off in 2012.
