Thursday Night Traffic Stop Produces 11 Arrests, 117 Citations

Eleven people were put behind bars Thursday night as the result of a DWI checkpoint set up by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Of those 11 people, five were charged with driving while intoxicated.

The checkpoint started at 11:00 Thursday night on the 5200 block of North Sharon Amity Road, near its junction with East W.T. Harris Boulevard. It continued until about 3:00 Friday morning. CMPD handed out 117 citations as a result of the traffic stop, including 32 for driving while license revoked and 28 for driving without a license.

In addition to the DWI's and driving charges, there were two open container charges and five drug charges.

DWI Checkpoint Results

CMPD's HITS Unit conducted a DWI checkpoint on Thursday night that began at 11:00pm and ended at 2:30am. The checkpoint was conducted on North Tryon Street at Dalton Avenue. It netted the following arrests and citations:

• 7 DWI's
• 4 Driving After License Revoked
• 3 Open Containers
• 4 Drug Violations
• 1 Littering Citation
• 1 Warrant
• 20 No Operator’s License
• 66 Other Charges

Police Checkpoint Results

CMPD Metro Division Officers conducted a License Checkpoint at the intersection of Norris Ave. and Wells St. today. The checkpoint yielded a number citations and several arrests in only a few hours.

A total of 72 citations were issued today for the following:

Driving While License Revoked - 26
Driving Without a License - 27
Inspection - 7
Registration - 5
Child Safety Seat - 2
Open Alcohol Container (DWI) - 2
Failure to Carry License - 2
Fictitious Registration - 1

- Driving while license revoked, - Driving without a license, - Possession of cocaine, - Possession of drug paraphernalia, - Possession of Ecstasy, - Open container, - P/W/I/S/D marijuana, - Possession of marijuana, - Resisting public officer, - Contribute to delinquency of a juvenile

DWI Checkpoint Results

Last night, officers from CMPD’s Metro, Freedom, Central, Westover and HITS divisions along with deputies from the Mecklenburg Co. Sheriffs Office, NC ALE and Mecklenburg ABC agents conducted a DWI Checkpoint on Wilkinson Blvd at Suttle Ave.

The Forensic Tests for Alcohol’s BAT mobile attended the checkpoint to assist with providing breathalyzer tests. This checkpoint was held in conjunction with the "Booze it and Loose It" campaign.

The four hour checkpoint netted the following preliminary results:

DWI: 7
Driving While License Revoked: 22
Other Traffic Citations: 28
Warrants Served: 1 US Marshall Fugitive warrant
Drug Arrests: 3 (1 P/W/I/S/D Cocaine)
