Circle-K Clerk Killed

Family members of a slain store clerk are inviting loyal customers who knew him to attend the funeral. Raj Premani worked at the Circle K on Providence Road for four years and became friends with many patrons.

Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Dilworth Chapel on the 1100th block of East Boulevard.

UPDATE (3/29) Police made an arrest overnight in Monday's killing of a south Charlotte convenience store clerk. Bailis Michael Shamun, 29 (shown right) a convicted armed robber, is in the Mecklenburg County jail charged with murder.

Also, police say the burned-out car that discovered Tuesday morning is not connected to the convenience store homicide case.

A convenience store clerk was fatally shot Monday night in an apparent robbery attempt. Police say the suspect entered the Circle K on Providence Road near Fairview Road around 9:30 p.m. 59-year-old Rajendra Premani (shown left) was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson said the suspect might be either a Hispanic or white male, approximately 5'6, with a "stocky" build. Police said the man was last seen wearing blue and red striped shirt, brown pants and a blue baseball cap. He fled the scene in a gold or champange colored Honda Accord.

WSOC-TV has released a photo from surveillance video which captures a man believed to be connected with the shooting death of a convenience store clerk in south Charlotte.

Several hours later police were called out to investigate a car that was found on fire on Whistling Swan Road off Steele Creek Road. Detectives said there are similarities between the car found and the car related to the murder investigation at the Circle K. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
