The First Citizens Bank on Alleghany Street was robbed around 9 am this morning. An eight hour manhunt ensued and neighbors weren't allowed in or out of their homes. SWAT team scoured the streets, parks, woods and homes looking for the bank robbers. The area was later cleared, but no one was arrested.
WCNC interviewed some of the neighbors and two neighbors had quite a story to tell in how they got caught up in a bank robbery suspect search- even though neither one of them were suspects.
"We were in there sleeping and kept hearing the helicopters. It sounded like they were on top of the apartment," said neighbor Camilla Thompson.
Police said two suspects, both men; armed with hand guns and a rifle robbed the bank after 9 a.m. The suspects fled the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee and ditched it near Camp Green Street. Police believe the suspects took cover in one of the houses in the Marlborough Woods neighborhood.
Thompson was getting ready for work as SWAT teams, police, K-9 units and 'Snoopy,' the police helicopter, swarmed the area. "They (police) called and said can I have consent to search and I said yeah that's fine," neighbor Antoine Robinson said.
Robinson got a call at work from police wanting to search his home. "They suspected they might be in mine or the one next door or my neighbor's apartment," Robinson said. Police searched crawl spaces, attics and the woods, but found no one.
