UPDATE: 5-15-07: Connelly was sentenced to serve 25 to 30 months is jail for the charge of burning uninhabited buildings. All other charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Jamaal Antwan Connelly, 25, is being held in connection with the arson set at an office building, located at 4521 Sharon Road. The fire damaged the offices of Wall Street Capital and Met Life Securities, located on the fourth floor of the building.
The fire took place on a Sunday evening. The alarm company notified the fire department after a sprinkler system was activated. Police believe the suspect entered the building by breaking a glass door near a parking deck. The fire did an estimated $250,000 worth damage to the building.
Connelly is charged with two counts of felonious breaking and entering; two counts of larceny after breaking and entering; malicious damage to occupied property by use of explosive or incendiary; burning of a building used in trade; carelessness with fire; and damage to property.
Authorities say that during an interview with investigators, Connelly confessed to his crimes. Police didn't say what might have motivated Connelly to burn the offices.
