Overnight Arrests

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had a very successful overnight, taking suspects into custody in four separate burglary and robbery cases across the city. Two of the cases involved quick work by police in the Independence District, and an off-duty police sergeant helped in another case.

Here is a timeline on the four cases:

7:30 p.m. -- Police say two men rob the Grocery Store, in the 8600 block of Monroe Road, near McAlpine Greenway Park. The suspects displayed a gun during the robbery, then fled on foot. Police arrived quickly and took two suspects into custody, a few blocks away. Police say they are questioning the suspects, to determine if they should be charged.

10:40 p.m. -- In the 7100 block of Albemarle Road, just east of Lawyers Road, a security guard at the Budget Self-Storage facility sees a suspect apparently breaking into several units. Police are called and arrest a suspect.

1:15 a.m. -- Police say a man and a woman steal beer from a Texaco convenience store in the 1500 block of Eastway Drive. When an employee approaches the two, police say, the man pulls a knife on the worker, and the two flee. Police arrive quickly and take the two suspects into custody.

2:15 a.m. -- In the 8100 block of Mallard Creek Road, an off-duty police sergeant spots a car parked outside an Eckerd drug store. The sergeant determines that the car is stolen. Inside the store, police say, two people try to steal several items, then escape in the car. Police arrive and arrest the suspects.
