Robbers Arrested in Indian Trail

Today, the Union County, NC Sheriff's Office arrested two armed robbers in Indian Trail, NC. Around 9:40 this morning, two men entered Indian Trail Optical at 622 South Indian Trail Rd. The men forced the store owner below the counter and demanded money from him using a hand gun, authorities said. The robbers then left the building.

Eyewitnesses gave responding officers descriptions of the vehicle and suspects. Around 11:30 a.m. an officer patrolling the area spotted a vehicle matching the description at U.S. 74 and Indian Trail Road. Police perused the vehicle and arrested two suspects. Officers found money believed to be connected to the robbery, a hand gun and marijuana in the car.

Demarly Johnson (Top R), 23, of Charlotte and Michael Coward (L) 22, of Monroe were both arrested on charges of armed robbery and second degree kidnapping. Johnson was also charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana, felonious possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both men are being held at Union County jail.
