Captain Johnny Jennings is with the CMPD's Street Crimes Task Force. He has come to expect to see a lot of robbery reports every Monday morning, but this weekend he got more than he expected. "One thing we can't do as a police department or the public, is panic when we have a spike in a couple days period," he said.
* 5 robberies were reported on Friday
* 11 reported robberies on Saturday
* 22 robberies were reported on Sunday
Most incidents happened either late at night or early in the morning. Police said more people see robberies as just a quick, easy way to get cash and the suspects are often repeat offenders.
The CMPD Street Crimes Task Force is working on a new initiative to roll out in the next two weeks. They plan to keep close tabs on some of these repeat offenders who are out on bond, by means of a curfew. Source: WBTV
