The Wachovia Bank Branch on 9725 Rocky River Road in Harrisburg, NC was the third Charlotte area bank robbed this week. Two banks were robbed Wednesday and there was an attempt on a fourth.
The latest robbery happened just after 1 p.m. today. The suspects escaped in a stolen Jeep Cherokee. Police were alerted to the crime by a citizen who saw the suspects enter the bank. Then a bank security officer was able to contact police as the suspects were leaving the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and give the a description of the cars they were in. Police tracked the suspects and concentrated their search at the Mission Place Harris Pavilion Apartments on Highway 49.
Police searched the apartments for more than an hour. The suspects were not caught. Police believe the suspects are three men and a woman.
No customers were inside the bank during the robbery, but several bank employees were assaulted by the suspects and were treated at the hospital.
Police did find the suspect’s getaway cars at the apartments. One of the cars used had been reported stolen earlier Thursday.
