The son of a well-known NASCAR driver is facing charges of taking indecent liberties with a child. Clay Morgan Shepherd, Jr., turned himself in to the Catawba County Sheriff's office on Friday.
Shepherd, Jr., lives in Newton and is the son of NASCAR driver Morgan Shepherd, Sr. We're told that Shepherd, Jr., works with a high-profile NASCAR racing team. He posted an unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
Catawba County Sheriff's Lt. Roy Brown confirmed that the defendant is the son of the NASCAR driver. Brown said deputies had been investigating Shepherd Jr. for about six weeks. The defendant knew the victim, Brown said, declining to say any more about the case.
