Car Thief Busted in SouthEnd

Police arrested Clyde Donald Byers (L) after he was caught breaking into a car by the car's owner. Police said they received a call from someone who spotted Clyde Byers inside his car on West Tremont Avenue in SouthEnd early Sunday.

The victim told police Byers was going through his glove box. The man held the suspect until police arrived on the scene. Byers has been charged with breaking into that car, but police believe he may also be responsible for several other car break-ins in the area.

Officers said there has been a massive spike in car break-ins in the SouthEnd. They say thieves are targeting parking lots and cars parked on streets in that area. Police have stepped up their patrols of the lots. If you have any information about the recent car break-ins, please call Charlotte Crime Stoppers @ 704-334-1600. Source: WSOC-TV
