Another Homicide in Charlotte

On Saturday night around 7:45 pm, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers responded to a call in reference to shots fired at 3008 Avalon Avenue. Upon arrival, an officer located 24 year old Dominique McCain (R), lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim was transported to Carolina Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.


According to the activity on the scanner, the police had witnesses that saw four people running from the scene of the crime. They were described as two black males and two black females. They also said it sounded like two different guns were being fired. Police called in the helicopter and K-9 units to try and track the suspects. Police recovered a rifle and another gun at the scene of the crime.

This shooting struck a neighborhood that has already seen at least five shootings in 2006, according to police records. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at 911.
