CMPD responded to the Ashley Place Apartments on Idlewild road around 11:35 pm last night for a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, police found Jose Vasquez-Valle and Marvin Canaca with gunshot wounds and both men were rushed to Carolinas Medical Center. One victim, Jose Vasquez-Valle, died from his wounds. Marvin Canaca received medical attention and is expected to survive.
Police interviewed witnesses in the area. They told investigators two black males tried to rob the people in the apartment. This is the city's 66th homicide of 2006. There were 72 homicides at this time in 2005.
