Shortly before midnight, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Charlotte Fire & Medic responded to a motor vehicle accident on the John Belk Freeway Inner Loop just past the exit ramp to I-77 North.45-year old Anthony Simpson was found deceased inside his vehicle. Police say Simpson sustained a gunshot wound prior to the accident. Investigators are still trying to determine if Simpson died from the gunshot wound or the car accident.
Police say the investigation found Anthony Simpson was traveling west on the John Belk Freeway prior to the Independence Blvd exit when he was shot. The origin of the gunshot(s) is unknown at this time. Simpson was operating a 1997 Black Lexus LX450 SUV.
Police are asking anyone who may have information or observed the victim's vehicle traveling on the John Belk Freeway- Saturday night around 11:45 pm to please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
