Bank of Granite on Weddington Road Robbed

The FBI is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating an armed bank robber who is being dubbed the “Bicycle Bandit” because of his means of escape following the robbery of the Bank of Granite, located at 3016 Weddington Road.

FBI: On Friday morning at approximately 10:48, a lone male entered the bank and drew a small-caliber semi-automatic pistol from a fanny pack. He approached the teller and demanded money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect exited the bank and fled on a bicycle. It is suspected that the bandit may have placed the bicycle in the back of a nearby vehicle and then fled the area in a motor vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of the robbery.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 6 foot, 240 pounds, 25-35 years of age and has dark hair. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a green camouflaged baseball cap, a Halloween-style mask with oversized and protruding teeth, a green t-shirt, blue-jean shorts, a red or orange colored fanny pack and blue tennis shoes. The suspect also appeared to be right-handed.
