Al Sharpton Involved in Winchester Shooting Investigation

6-14-2008: Al Sharpton is in town again- rallying his troops and stirring up trouble for the most part. He met with police officials again and spoke to the media and public about the death of Aaron Winchester.

Sharpton publicly criticized the police and made the statement, "Even in the pursuit of a crime-- that a policeman has the right to become the judge, jury and executioner is not only unconstitutional- it is immoral and this family should not be suffering that." Al Sharpton is calling for an independent investigation- in addition to the CMPD & SBI investigation.

Feel free to contact Al Sharpton and ask for his help in solving Charlotte's crime problem while he is in town. We could sure use his help!

6-5-2008: According to a report from News 14 Carolina, the National Action Network, led by the Rev. Al Sharpton, met with Charlotte officials yesterday. The meetings were related to 21-year-old Aaron Winchester, who was killed in an officer-involved shooting over two weeks ago.

Sharpton has gotten involved in the investigation as part of the NAN's 'Criminal Justice Initiative' which was "developed to combat racism and discrimination by Law Enforcement Agencies, Corporations and other social institutions."

In a statement, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the CMPD veteran officer fired at Winchester after he fired at police and started to run toward another police officer with a gun in his hand. However, there are conflicting eye witness accounts. News 14 said Sharpton is expected in Charlotte sometime in the next two weeks at the request of Winchester’s family.
