WCNC: Brazen Armed Robbery Caught on Tape

From WCNC: Police are looking for a trio who robbed a convenience store clerk at gunpoint. It happened at the Sam’s Mart on S. Polk Road on June 7.

Police just released the detailed surveillance video which shows the three suspects walking into the store, full of customers, shortly before midnight.

One male suspect placed several items on the counter and handed the clerk a $5 bill. When the clerk opened the register drawer, the suspect pulled out a gun, pointing it at the robber’s head, according to Pineville police.

"They did not try and conceal their identity in any way, no hoodies, no pull over shirts, no dark sunglasses, and they stand around in the store for a few minutes before they commit the robbery. Other customers are in there, no trying to hide behind the stuff -- just very, very bold,” said investigator Toby Calhoun with Pineville police.

The clerk complied, and no one was hurt. The group got away with $500. The store’s manager says the experience has left everyone unsettled. "Everybody is scared here; look at the doors every time, who's coming in. Even when they reach in their pockets you don’t know what they going to do next," said Vitaliy Chebanu.

Officers believe the same group may have robbed a group of teenagers at gunpoint in the Stonecrest shopping center 45 minutes later. Officer says the suspects' clothes and their vehicle description are the same.

One suspect was wearing a green striped shirt, with dreadlocks pulled behind his head; the other two were wearing red and white T-shirts. The suspects got away in a dark colored Mazda 3 or Mazda 6 with chrome wheels. They are still on the run.
