Captured: “Grocery Bag Bandit”- Repeat Bank Robber

UPDATE: 7-10-08: CAPTURE! Sheriff’s deputies in Mecklenburg County, Virginia arrested two men yesterday after a bank robbery in Bracey, VA.

Marvin Maurice Williams and William Bernard Barr are both in custody in Virginia. Investigators with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in Charlotte believe the men are responsible for robbing the RBC Bank at 7852 Arboretum Drive on Monday, July 7. Investigators say Williams may also be connected to robberies at the SunTrust Bank in Matthews on June 6, 2008 and the BB&T on Conlan Circle on June 30, 2008.

A man demanded a bank teller fill his grocery bag with money at the RBC Bank at 7852 Arboretum Drive just after lunch today. Witnesses say the man is about 6’ tall, between 25 to 30 years of age and weighs about 300 pounds. He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt with “Houston Rockets” printed on the front, and a flat short-billed cap.

Investigators with the Safe Streets Task Force think he’s the same man who robbed the SunTrust Bank in Matthews on June 6, 2008 and the BB&T on Conlan Circle on June 30, 2008. He flashed a gun during one of the robberies.

If you know who the man might be, or have information that would lead to his arrest, please call the FBI Charlotte Division at 704-377-9200 or CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600.
