Shortly before 10:00 pm, the Zaxby's restaurant, located at 7508 South Tryon Street was robbed by two black males wearing masks and dark clothing. The robbers were armed with handguns and robbed the restaurant and all the customers inside at the time.The Manager of the restaurant struggled with one of the suspects and he was shot in the abdomen. He was transported to CMC-Main in stable condition. There were several people, including employees and customers, inside the restaurant at the time of the robbery.
The men fled in a burgundy Dodge Caravan that was stolen earlier in the day from Carowinds. CMPD officers recovered the vehicle where the suspects abandoned it on Hookset Drive, off South Tryon Street. Witnesses reported seeing two black males jump out of the van and run down South Tryon Street.
