Homicide Detectives Investigating a Shooting on Toddville Road

UPDATE: Homicide detectives presented this case to the District Attorneys Office for review. Upon review of all the information and evidence in this case, the district attorneys office has determined that the homeowner acted in self defense when he came home and walked into his own home and was confronted by Mr. Quinn. The homeowner was threatened and feared for his life when he shot Quinn. No charges will be filed against the homeowner.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the shooting death of Timothy Michael Quinn. The shooting occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Freedom Division officers responded to a call for service regarding the shooting of a man who had broken into the home of the resident on Toddville Road. When officers arrived, they found Mr. Quinn still on scene, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC performed CPR and transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Evidence at the residence indicates that Mr. Quinn had broken into the home at 2032 Toddville Road. The homeowner returned home and noticed a strange vehicle in his driveway and also noted that his side door had been kicked in. The resident entered his home, confronted Mr. Quinn and gave him orders to get on the floor. Mr. Quinn did not comply and advanced towards the homeowner, who shot Mr. Quinn at least one time with a handgun.

The homeowner called 911 to report the incident. The homeowner voluntarily accompanied CMPD officers Police Headquarters for an interview. Crime Scene Investigations and Homicide Unit Detectives collected evidence.
